CUT. SHAPE. FOCUS. TUNE.

The first glimpse of a brighter future: introducing the ARRI L-Series, a new generation of lighting fixtures that heralds the seamless integration of LED technology into established working practices within the film, television and event industries.

By delivering state-of-the-art technical innovations through a recognizable system platform, the L-Series offers a smooth transition into an era of high performance, energy-efficient studio and location lighting solutions.

PERFORMANCE

Familiar, but Revolutionary

Quality of light begins with the field. Smooth intensity, uniform color, even illumination: all are traits shared by the L-Series and conventional ARRI Fresnels. And, as Fresnel fixtures are workhorses of the lighting industry, designers and technicians now have nothing new to learn in order to use LED technology.

ARRI L-Series

Focusability: Spot > Flood > Anywhere In-Between

A key element of the versatility of traditional Fresnelsis the ability to spot and flood the beam as needed. Whether it's a flood field for a pullback shot or a tight spot for a bright highlight, the continuous focusability of the L-Series performs just as expected. And, unlike traditional Fresnels - which have significant light waste in spot focus - the efficient L-Series optical system maintains the same field lumens in all focus positions.

Color: Vibrant, Full-Spectrum Lighting

Flattering, true-to-life color rendition, previously achievable only with full-spectrum tungsten sources, is a hallmark feature of the L-Series. Both 3200 K and 5600 K color temperatures are reproduced with excellent color results, providing greater color latitude.

With the L7-C, fully tuneable white light can be adjusted for different skin tones, camera sensors and mixed-light environments, while specific color shades can be matched through full gamut color mixing. Unlike other LED fixtures, this level of color control does not involve compromising the quality of the light field: the L-Series is unique in combining uniform light and single shadow rendition with absolute control of color attributes.

FEATRURES

Whereas other LED fixtures have taken forms that demand sacrifices in the quality of lighting designs, the L-Series is unique in that it fits perfectly into established working practices. This means that lighting designers will not have to adapt their creative techniques, nor will studios have to change their operating procedures; conventional Fresnels can be exchanged for L-Series Fresnels on a like-for-like basis, achieving substantial and immediate cost savings with minimal disruption.

Advanced Cooling Options

To satisfy the rigorous sound requirements of modern broadcast studios, the groundbreaking L-Series passive cooling system incorporates no moving parts or fans and is therefore completely silent; it can be used in ambient air temperatures of up to 35°C. Alternatively, the active cooling system uses an extremely quiet (<20 dB) fan and provides a compact and lightweight option for location work in temperatures of up to 50°C.

Focus Knobs

True Blue-style focus knobs provide the precise adjustment and rapid flood-to-spot that users enjoy from manual, mechanical control. Knobs on both sides of the fixture ensure easy access from all positions, eliminating the need for awkward reach-arounds. Turning the knobs is neither tedious nor time-consuming; full flood-to-spot can be achieved in only three turns.

Sliding Stirrup

The ARRI sliding stirrup design enables precise adjustment of the fixture’s center of gravity, to compensate for front-end accessories. It also creates the option of pulling the fixture back and reducing its hanging height.

Yoke

With an extremely slim profile, the extruded aluminum yoke provides high strength without added weight. An optional pole-operated yoke allows full operation of pan, tilt and focus from the floor and is therefore a popular choice for many studios

Tilt Lock

The high strength tilt lock provides extremely secure locking, eliminating movement and slippage and ensuring that the fixtures will stay where you put them.

Pole Operation

Optional pole operation is a popular option for many broadcast studios, enabling fast and efficient adjustment of pan, tilt and focus without the need for ladders or lifts.

DMX Control

For broadcast studios, remote fixture control is of paramount importance, and all functions of the L7 are controllable through DMX. The L7 is also fully RDM compatible, providing bi-directional feedback and reporting of parameters including system status; hours on the light engine; calibration data from the internal color sensor; and current DMX address (with the ability to remotely assign and address all fixtures in a DMX network).

On-Board Control

For location applications, the ability to access all lamphead parameters directly at the light is important. For this reason, an optional on-board controller is available for L7 fixtures, with manual intensity adjustment. Additional controls for color temperature and plus/minus green can be switched to manipulate hue and saturation at the touch of a button.

EFFICIENCY

There is much discussion about the “green” credentials of LEDs in the market, but perhaps the most compelling aspect in this regard is the associated cost savings. L-Series fixtures reduce electricity usage by 75% and their LED light engines last 200 times longer than normal bulbs, when compared to conventional tungsten Fresnels. These and other cost-saving attributes will combine to effect a rapid return on investment

If 50 L7 Fresnels were used to replace 50 1000 W tungsten-lamped Fresnels in a full-time-use broadcast studio, over the course of five years the retrofit would save:

416,000 kWh of electricity from reduced power consumption and 160,000 kWh from reduced air conditioning, which equates to $70,000 in combined savings on electricity use.

2,900 lamps, which at $15 each for a 1000 W tungsten globe, adds up to $44,000.

If this was a brand new studio, $34,000 in dimmers and dimmer rack installation.

Total savings over a five year period are approximately $148,000. Clearly, cost savings of this scale make the L7 fixtures an extremely compelling option for replacing tungsten Fresnels.

Location Applications

Lighting teams working on location will love the versatility they can achieve in small to medium-size packages. Nine ARRI L7 Fresnels can be run off a single 20 A, 110 V outlet, as opposed to only two 1000 W or three 650 W tungsten Fresnels.

Upgradeable Technology
for a Solid Investment

We all know the pace at which LED efficiency is improving, so the L7 is an expansible platform designed to adapt with the latest enhancements in LED chip performance. The light engine is fully upgradeable, ensuring that the fixtures can take advantage of technology advances as and when they happen.

The firmware is also upgradeable through the USB port on the rear of each unit, accommodating future control protocols such as ACN and incorporating other system enhancements that may become available in due course.

In addition, future optic accessories will bring new levels of functionality to the platform, further expanding the L-Series versatility.
